Raw Theme

“I wanted so badly to lie down next to her on the couch, to wrap my arms around her and sleep. Not fuck, like in those movies. Not even have sex. Just sleep together in the most innocent sense of the phrase. But I lacked the courage and she had a boyfriend and I was gawky and she was gorgeous and I was hopelessly boring and she was endlessly fascinating. So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane.”
― John Green, Looking for Alaska
boys-and-suicide:

Generally when it comes to wanting to hurt yourself something triggered you whether it be thoughts or actions. What’s best is to wait for the feeling to pass with some things I listed. Please use this for a reference and let me know if it helps.
Draw anything you need to replace the feeling, it can be graphic.
Grab some silly putty, clay, or playdough and squeeze. You can also slice it with what you wanted to hurt yourself I’ve found this very useful rather than on myself.
Take the object to hurt yourself and freeze it. If you feel like hurting yourself, wait for it to thaw and see how you feel after.
If you’re a writer, you should write out everything you feel and it can be graphic as well.
Hold ice for as long as you can.
Snap a rubber band.
Play with your pet if you have one and make them happy and it could change your mood.
Draw on your arms with red ink from a pen or a marker.
Wax your legs.
There’s something called the butterfly project where you draw a butterfly with someone’s name. If you cut it then you killed the butterfly. I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS ONE because you will have slip ups, and if you figuratively kill someone when you didn’t mean to then it only makes you feel worse.
Remember that self harm never made us feel better in the long run, only temporarily so in the meantime these suggestions will replace it safely and affectively while you find other coping skills. AND REMEMBER: You will self harm again. It happens when you’re recovering from an addiction. What helps me with this is realizing that I struggled with hurting myself on a daily basis and if I can keep it off 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, or 2 years that’s amazing! We can’t decide one day to stop and it will, that’s not how it works so it’s vital to keep in mind it’s going to be tough but worth it now that you won’t have to fear the next time it happens and whether or not it will kill you. We all want these thoughts out of our heads.
I told you you’d get tired of me first.

“If you stay, I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I’ll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it’d be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I’d do it. I can lose you like that if I don’t lose you today. I’ll let you go. If you stay.”
- Gayle Forman, If I Stay
